Bald Eagles - Immature
Four Immature Bald Eagles dispute over a catch by one of them.
While at Ridgefield NWR I stopped to take a few photos of an immature Bald Eagle, as it was eating its catch of the day. I could not identify what he had caught as it was only partially visible. Another immature Bald Eagle soon arrived to lay claim to the meal. The two eagles were engaged in an airborne fight when a third immature Bald Eagle arrived. Scuffles continued, sometimes with two of them at it, while the third watched, and sometimes all three were involved. Before long a fourth immature Bald Eagle arrived to stake its claim. At that point one of the original three eagles left with at least a portion if not all of the catch, while the remaining three kept at it. Two other eagles soon left the scene. The remaining eagle looked around like “where is it?”, then flew off. Over 200 photos were taken in just over one hour.
